The Research World: Where is my standing?

Today, a group of Korea professors from Sungkyunkwan came to my university. The aim is to give some information about their university and to attract students to follow the research Master/PhD at their labs in Korea . Sungkyunkwan is one of the largest universities in Korea, with a history more than 600 years. This is the only university supported by the King and it has also received lots of money from many companies and organizations. For example, their Communication Engineering Department has a strong financial support from Samsung Electronics - one of the top world companies in Semiconductor. Although I'm not interested in Computer Engineering but I still went to attend the talk to get some information about this field. And I've got lots...

The secret of Emotional Intelligence

Have you ever though what is the most important thing account for the success of a person in the society? Intelligence? No, most of successful people are not intelligent. Communication skill? Yeah, good answer but we want to get the more general, and the answer here is Emotional  Intelligence (EI) Maybe you will be very surprised when knowing that EI accounts for more than 50% of the job performance, especially in  management positions, it accounts for 80%. It's also more important than IQ plus technical experience. But what is Emotional Intelligence? Basically, EI includes 4 levels - Self-awareness: Can you identify your own emotion and tendency? - Self-management: Can you manage them?- Social-awareness: ...

Right here waiting for you

Up to now, I rarely listen to English songs because I have a feeling that English songs don't have much emotion as Vietnamese songs do. But today, one thing has made my opinion change, the song "Right here waiting for you". It's so wonderful that it has made me cry Richard Mark sang the song warmly. He took everybody into a sad story, where there were a boy and a girl . Because of some reasons, the girl had gone far, far away... left the boy alone with an eternal love. The boy missed the girl so much, but he can’t come to the girl. The only thing he could do is singing to express his feeling and hope one day; the girl will come back to him...Wherever you goWhatever you doI will be right here waiting for youWhatever it takesOr how my heart...

How to compare the standard of living?

What do you do if one of your fiend ask you to help him compare the standard of living between two countries such as Thailan and Vietnam ?  Maybe you will tell him to use the "GDP per capita" , which is the avarage value a person earns in one year. But this method is inappropriate. Why? Look into an example 100$ in Vietnam can help you have a good living in one month. But with the same amount of money in US, you cannot pay for one-month house renting. And it's very clear that $100 in Vietnam is more valuable than 100$ in US. So how can we compare the standard of living? That's PPP - Purchasing Power Parity, the amount of goods a person can afford to buy with his income. Below are PPP/GDP of some countries.   US                 ...

Put myself in an English environment

I have learned English for more than 10 years, but my English is not as good as it should be, maybe because of the method. Up to now, all my English classes are just for examination . Hichic, I must find another way to learn it efficiently. And I decided in the next 4 months, I will put myself in an English environment, so that I can practice it everytime and everywhere I can - Reading : Give up all Vietnamese version of daily newspaper such as: Tuoi Tre, Thanh Nien... and change to Thanh Nien daily, Vietnam News, Google News... In addition, every two days, I will get information about one country on the Wikipedia.org. Now I have finised reading about US, China. It's too interesting for me to continue and maybe after this semester, I will...

The World Is Flat : Vision for the Future

It took me nearly a month to finish reading "The World Is Flat - a brief history of the 21th century". This is one of the best books I've ever seen. Not only because it has changed my mind, but also broaden my vision for the future .The most useful thing I gain from the book is the anwser for the question: How to join the flatting world? In general, it's also the way for Vietnam to catch up with other developing countries. The answer includes three steps:1. Good infrastructure2. Good training3. Good managementPerhaps it's too difficult to understand. A real example is How to establish a good company? First the company should have a good Internet and phone connection for the employees to exchange information. Second, the employee can only work...
